Printing business cards at home

  1. Print a test on plain paper with "Print card outlines" turned on, hold it against your card sheet in front of a window, and check the alignment.
  2. Use card stock: 80 to 110 lb cover (216 to 300 gsm) feels like a real business card. Feed it through the rear or manual tray if your printer has one.
  3. Print at 100% (Actual size), never "Fit to page", or the cards will not line up with the sheet or the cut marks.
  4. Two-sided cards: print page 1, put the sheet back in the printer flipped on its long edge, and print page 2. The back page is mirrored so the cards line up; check one test sheet first, as printers can shift a millimeter or two.
  5. Cutting: perforated sheets just snap apart. On card stock, cut along the marks with a paper trimmer for straight edges.

What to put on a business card

  • Your name and job title, the company, and the one or two ways you want people to reach you.
  • A QR code saves typing: "Website" opens your site, "Save my contact" adds you to the phone's contacts. Scan the printed card once to test it.
  • Keep the text at 7 points or larger and leave space around it: a quiet card looks more professional than a crowded one.

Questions

What is the difference between Avery 8371 and 5371?

The layout is the same: 10 cards of 3.5 × 2 in. 8371 is made for inkjet printers and 5371 for laser printers.

Can I print a full-color background?

Home printers cannot print right up to the perforations without small white edges, so the designs here keep a thin white border. For edge-to-edge color, use "clean edge" card sheets or a print shop.

Is it free?

Yes. No sign-up, no watermark.
